I’m on the cover for the February issue!

I was asked by the editor and then selected to be a contributing author for the international publication, Luminous Wisdom: Sophia Magazine for the next year.  This online magazine has 45,000 readers globally and believes each womyn’s life purpose is forever in process—leading, directing, and calling her toward her highest good.  This is in alignment with my passion to connect womyn to their power within.  I am THRILLED to share my wisdom and nuggets I have learned along the way to a broader audience.  It was a vision I created a year ago and now it has come to form.  Yipaeeeee!  Please do not give up on your dreams…keep dreaming BIG!

How different my life would have been if our culture and educational system focused on how to cultivate a relationship with oneself first—to learn to love and accept oneself early in life.

I have now come to realize that each day I awake is an opportunity to discover a deeper love for me—an opportunity to fill up my love bucket.  The happy moments in life are not the only ways to fill up our love buckets; the challenges and painful experiences that occur in our lives contribute as well.

There have been several great loves in my life where pain created the opening in my heart to start to love myself.  First, when I was 22 years old and living in Washington, D.C., I received a phone call that shattered my life.  My father, who was a very wise soul, passed away of a heart attack at 59.  He was the first person who I loved deeply that died.

My mother, who was my rock, passed away from a stroke less than four years later.  I was 26 years old.  This was only two months before my first wedding in hometown Juneau, Alaska.

The next loves that brought pain were my first two marriages.  I married a man who I dreamt about growing old with—we divorced over six years later.  I remarried a few years later to a man who made my heart sing, but that song died over a year later when I was widowed at 37.

This continuous exposure to immense, heart-wrenching pain allowed me to eventually create a relationship with my heart that I would not have otherwise been able to have.  I started to become aware of this love inside me through my pain.

I truly awoke to a love for myself just two months before my 45th birthday.  I became very ill and consulted nine doctors, none of whom were able to provide a healing plan for me or accurately diagnose my health crisis—they were stumped.

I called it a project.  Why?  Because with a project there is a means to the end.  A project invited me to heal, and it implied I would definitely find a way to heal.  It was during this time that I connected to “mirror work” and spent each day projecting loving thoughts toward my reflection.  At first I felt nothing, but I faked it until I could feel the warmth of this emotion one day in my heart.  I wrote love notes to myself and drew red hearts with an erasable red marker on my mirror.  I said daily to my reflection, “Tally, I love you!”

Days, then months went by as I filled my red bucket of love.  This love created magic for my life and became the best defense against pain and illness.  It became clear that as I loved and chose myself first, I opened up to living in the present moment.  It gave me much more than just physical healing.

As I filled the red bucket with my love, it allowed me to live in love, grace and gratitude to myself and others, and it transformed the darkness of my past to love and light.

It can for you too.  To soar high I had to love myself first.  During this month of love, may you find a way to feel a deeper love for yourself and fly with it daily.  This will allow you to achieve new possibilities for yourself and allow more dreams to manifest into existence.  Loving you allows you to believe in yourself.  Happy Valentine’s Day, Sweetheart!
